The Collaboration
Leading global fashion powerhouse Oh Polly is delighted to announce its recent upcycling project in collaboration with BA Fashion Design students from the London College of Contemporary Arts (LCCA).
Combining a focus on sustainability with cutting-edge design, the brief challenged Foundation, 1st and 2nd year students to reimagine returned jersey dresses from Oh Polly’s collection, transforming them into show-stopping gala dresses that push the boundaries of contemporary fashion.
The Process
Working in teams to foster a sense of collaboration, students were challenged to repurpose a returned Oh Polly garment, while exploring innovative approaches to volume, shape, textiles, and print.
The students were tasked with drawing inspiration from iconic designers such as Alexander McQueen, Molly Goddard, Rick Owens, Comme des Garçons, and Richard Quinn, to create their gala-ready gowns.
Participating groups were evaluated on their ability to push creative boundaries, with judges taking into account their innovation in upcycling materials and technique, attention to detail in the construction of the garment, the successful creation of volume and shape, and how well their final designs align with the style of the designer chosen as inspiration.
The Winning Team
Congratulations to the winning team Juli Jikuri / Oksana Smyhora / Oleksanda Zhyvun / Sofia Mospan / Jamey Anthony Asha Charles Coventry / Sarah Zulfi Ghorbati and Cicek Celik Elidemir who will also feature on Oh Polly’s LinkedIn page, secured first place with their exceptional design inspired by British designer Molly Goddard. Their creative approach and innovative utilisation of materials resulted in a truly standout piece.
